Aquaplus has revealed a new video for the upcoming Utawarerumono series action spinoff, Utawarerumono Zan.

Zan’s new promo video, which is over four minutes long, reveals several new details. Story sequences from Mask of Deception are shown, suggesting that the game’s story will focus on re-enacting events from existing games. Characters Oshutoru and Munechika have also been announced as DLC (Oshutoru in disguise of “Ukon”, however, is not DLC). Gameplay footage for Ukon, Kuon, and Nekone is shown, as is equipment crafting, skill customisation, and online co-op play (previously announced as having up to four players). The video also features a new instrumental remix of the anime Utawarerumono: The False Faces opening theme “Fuantei na Kami-sama” by Suara.

Originally released as a novel game with strategy elements for the PC in 2002, Utawarerumono was later ported to the PS2 and PSP, and was also adapted as an anime and OVA. An HD remake was released for the PS4 on April 26 2018. Its sequel, released in two parts on the Vita and PS4 as Mask of Deception (which also got an anime series, The False Faces) and Mask of Truth in 2015 and 2016 respectively, with worldwide English releases in 2017. The series takes place in a world roughly equivalent to 15-16th century Japan in technology and culture, with strong Ainu influences, that is constantly threatened by war.

Utawarerumono Zan will be released in Japan on the Playstation 4 on 27th September 2018. No other versions have as of yet been announced.
