As the subtitle indicates, Atelier Lulua is a sequel to the Atelier series’ Arland sub-series, taking place after Atelier Rorona, Atelier Totori, and Atelier Meruru. Character designs are being handled by Kishida Mel.
The protagonist of the game, Elmerulia Fryxell (nicknamed Lulua), is said to be the daughter of the first game’s protagonist, Rorona Fryxell, and is an alchemist in training who aims to be like her mother. The game’s alchemy system is said to be returning to the Arland series’ simple version, removing puzzle elements present in newer Atelier games, while including improvements from the newer games. New systems will be added as well. Gathering ingredients includes elements similar to Atelier Totori’s “discovery” system, with the player finding new objects and areas.
Atelier Lulua: The Alchemist of Arland 4 will be available on the PS4 and Switch, and is to be released in 2019. In addition to the regular physical version, digital downloads and physical special editions will be available.
