The 26th Electronic Entertainment Expo, E3 2021, was held online from 12–15 June 2021. Numerous Japanese video games were shown, and Frontline Gaming Japan has compiled a list of them here.
Elden Ring
From Software’s latest Souls-like, with George R. R. Martin of A Song of Ice and Fire fame contributing to the setting and story. In addition to the previously-announced Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC, it has been confirmed to be released on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S as well, and the release date has been announced as 21 January 2022.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut
A definitive edition of the acclaimed Hideo Kojima game for the PS5. More details will be released at a later date.
Tales of Arise
The latest game in Bandai Namco’s “Tales of” series, due to be released worldwide for the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on 9 September 2021, and on the PC via Steam on 10 September 2021
Metal Slug Tactics
A tactical spinoff “with roguelike elements” of SNK’s popular Metal Slug series for the PC. More details to come at a later date.
Babylon’s Fall
An online co-op-centric service-type game for the Playstation 4, Playstation 5 and PC, developed by Platinum Games and heavily influenced by combat in NieR Automata.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
A re-imagining of the first game in Square’s Final Fantasy series as an action RPG, developed by Koei-Tecmo’s Team Ninja, to be released for the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC in 2022.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
A crowdfunded RPG made by the creators of the Suikoden series, to be released for the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC in 2022.
Shin Megami Tensei V
The latest game in Atlas’ acclaimed Shin Megami Tensei series, announced for a worldwide release for the Nintendo Switch on 12 November 2021.
Mushihimesama, Espgaluda 2, DoDonPachi Resurrection
Nintendo Switch ports of three classic Cave shooting games, to be released in 2021, with Mushihimesama out now.
Super Robot Wars 30
The latest entry in the Super Robot Wars series, commemorating the series’ 30th anniversary. To be released within 2021 for the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and PC (Steam).
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel
Footage of the upcoming Breath of the Wild sequel (as of yet untitled) was shown, and the game was announced for a 2022 release.
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water
The 5th game in the Fatal Frame series is getting ports for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam), to be released within 2021.
Metroid Dread
A new Metroid game with a horror spin, to be released on the Nintendo Switch on 8 October 2021.
WarioWare: Get It Together!
A new WarioWare game announced for a 10 September 2021 release on the Nintendo Switch.
