Famitsu conducted a survey on the players of Fate/Grand Order to commemorate the game’s seventh anniversary, and published the results in the 18-25 August 2022 issue of the magazine.

The surveyees

The survey was conducted from 30 June to 6 July 2022 and answered by 6395 people, consisting of 2368 male and 3733 female users (294 answered “other”). 40.7% of surveyees were in their 20s while 31.5% were in their 30s, 15.9% were 10-19, 10.7% were in their 40s, and 1.2% were above 50. Not all surveyees answered all questions.

6.8% of surveyees had master levels under 120, 17.4% were at 121-140, 28.1% were at 141-150, 28.3% were at 151-159, and 18.4% were at 160.

45.3% of players chose a male master, while 54.7% chose a female master.

 

When players first started playing the game:

  • Pre-registration: 15.1%
  • Within 2015: 9.5%
  • Within 2016: 11.3%
  • Within 2017: 22.8%
  • Within 2018: 13.2%
  • Within 2019: 10.3%
  • Within 2020: 10.1%
  • Within 2021: 6.2%
  • Within 2022: 1.5%

Top reasons for why players started playing the game:

  1. Because they are fans of the Fate series: 2153 (33.67%)
  2. Because it was recommended to them: 1418 (22.17%)
  3. Because it is popular: 799 (12.49%)
  4. Because they were interested in the characters: 733 (11.46%)
  5. Because of the commercials: 255 (3.98%)

Players were also asked what Fate-related work was their first, and the top ten answers were:

  • “The excitement and satisfaction of the main story is something that cannot be experienced elsewhere. I look forward to more of the story and cool servants.” (30s/F)
  • “I want them to subvert my expectations in a good way, to do something that nobody expects.” (20s/M)
  • “Collaborations with Mahoutsukai no Yoru and Tsukihime.” (30s/M)
  • “More low rarity servants.” (302/M)
  • “Demon Pillar plushies.” (30s/F)
  • “I want more opportunities to use servants I’ve raised like in tower and Grail Front events.” (30s/M)
  • “I want them to do something about the older servants in Valentine events. Newer servants have ten times more text. Some older servants have more lines in other servants’ Valentine scenarios than their own, which is just sad.” (30s/F)
  • “I want the Grail Fronts and dog fetch systems as permanent additions to the game.” (40s/F)
  • “I want it to end properly, yet I don’t want it to end.” (40s/M)
  • “I’ve given up on skipping NP animations, but at least let us make them faster like skill animations.”  (50s/M)

Finally, surveyees were asked for comments for the anniversary and some of the answers were:

  • “I was a student when FGO started, and now I’m working. I hope it’s still going when I retire!” (20s/F)
  • “I still want an NP skip function. It’s because we like the animations that we don’t want to get sick of them. Please understand.” (30s/F)
  • “I want the game to keep going on. I hope we can import our data to FGO2.” (40s/M)
  • “Aim for a 10th anniversary!” (40s/F)
