A list of the top 100 best-selling video games in Japan for the year of 2024 was published in the 13th February 2025 issue of Weekly Famitsu.
The number of sales tallied is from 1 Jan 2024 to 29 Dec 2024. Games released prior to this period also have their lifetime sales listed in addition to their 2024 sales.
Multi-platform games have each version tallied separately. Re-releases with different prices like Monster Hunter Rise + Sunbreak Set Best Price (Switch) and different versions of games such as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with and without the The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion are also listed separately from other versions.
Digital sales are not tallied, meaning that download purchases of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree are not included on the last, though purchases of the new physical release of the game which bundled the base game with the DLC are. Download cards sold in stores are tallied.

Things to take away from the rankings
The sales chart was again dominated by the Nintendo Switch, which takes up 72 of the top 100 slots for games, including 9 of the top 10.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was the only PS5 game to make it to the top 10, placing at 9th, with the next PS5 title being DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake at 15th place.
There were 22 PS5 games on the top 100 list for 2024, 4 more than 2023’s 18 and three times 2022’s 7. Sony solving the stock issue with PS5s in Japan in 2023 contributed to this largely, and a larger install base resulted in more people opting to buy games for the PS5: This is also apparent in how almost all of the games released on both the PS4 and PS5 sold far better on the the PS5, in contrast to many cases where the PS4 version sold better in 2023 and 2022.
No Xbox games made it on to the list at all, indication of a low install base, but due to the increasing popularity and availability of the PS5, the Xbox consoles finally outsold the PS4 in 2024.
