AnimeJapan & Bit Summit reveal the top 10 indie games fans want to see as anime

A new collaboration between AnimeJapan 2026 & Bit Summit has revealed the results of Indie Games We Want to See Animated 2026 (アニメ化してほしいインディゲームランキング 2026), a fan-voted ranking spotlighting indie titles that fans want to see anime adaptations of, which is an indie game focused spinoff of a similar ranking done for manga each year.

Drawn from a pool of 35 nominated games, primarily connected to BitSummit award selections, the top 10 was determined through public voting and was showcased at AnimeJapan, where a dedicated booth at Tokyo Big Sight featured the selected titles.

  1. Urban Myth Dissolution Center
  2. IZON.
  3. Azure Striker Gunvolt
  4. HacKClaD
  5. Sausage Legend: Arena
  6. Ratatan
  7. I Am a Dorm Resident (but Cat)
  8. Monstabox
  9. Hotel Barcelona
  10. Hungry Meem

The lineup spans a wide and eclectic range of styles and formats, from narrative-driven mystery to action-heavy side-scrollers and more experimental concepts. Notably, while Azure Striker Gunvolt is an older title from an established developer that has spawned a long-running series, the majority of entries on the list are relatively newer projects which gained traction through events like BitSummit.

The top ranked entry, Urban Myth Dissolution Center, which already has a manga adaptation, has been cited by many industry professionals as one of their favourite games of 2025, as well as by us previously, and as a narrative mystery game is well-suited for an anime format, though it is unclear if the unique art direction would translate well to animation:

The ranking was presented on-site at AnimeJapan through a dedicated booth showcasing all ten titles, with exhibits for each game along with playable demos. In addition, the space featured presentations on previous game-to-anime adaptations, providing context for how similar projects have been approached.

While the ranking does not correspond to any confirmed anime projects as of yet, it does place these titles in front of both fans and industry attendees during one of the largest anime events of the year, offering a glimpse at popular indie games framed specifically through the lens of the potential of them receiving anime adaptations.
